The Tye River is a peaceful, usually slow flowing river which is full of large rocks which form little water falls and swimming areas. It is open to all during daylight hours, We recommend that you bring an extra pair of shoes. The rocks at the river are very slippery and most of our regular campers use beach shoes for this purpose.

The campground is 1/2 mile from the base of Crabtree Falls, which is the tallest waterfall east of the Mississippi. An uphill 2 1/2 mile hike to the top of the falls will take you to a beautiful over look of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Other hiking within the area include the Appalachian Trail and Spy Rock. The Appalachian Trail has a unique swinging bridge at the 56 cross over and you can hike the Priest's 4063 ft. elevation, the highest rock in the area, a challenge for south bounders.

Spy Rock has an absolutely breath taking and seemingly endless 360º view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. A mile hike to the Appalachian Trail and then another 1/2 mile or so to the top of Spy Rock. You climb the huge rock to find this spectacular view. You will also find a patch of grass in the summer months and sometimes water (not drinkable) atop this rock and a sunset you will never forget. That is if you are game to hike down in the dark! Spy Rock
