The
Tye River is a peaceful, usually slow flowing river which is full of large rocks which
form little water falls and swimming areas. It is open to all during daylight hours, We
recommend that you bring an extra pair of shoes. The rocks at the river are very slippery
and most of our regular campers use beach shoes for this purpose.
The campground is 1/2
mile from the base of Crabtree Falls, which is the tallest waterfall east of the
Mississippi. An uphill 2 1/2 mile hike to the top of the falls will take you to a
beautiful over look of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Other hiking within
the area include the Appalachian Trail and Spy Rock. The Appalachian Trail has a unique
swinging bridge at the 56 cross over and you can hike the Priest's 4063 ft.
elevation, the highest rock in the area, a challenge for south bounders.
